The article (Partisan Participation and Ethnic Autonomy: the Case of the Mapuche Organization Admapu, in Chile; Journal of Latin American Studies, Oct. 2015; co-authored with Christian Martinez Neira) examines the formation of Admapu - an organization representing a broad sector of mapuche society that resisted the actions of the Chilean dictatorship in the 1980s. In political memory, the period of agrarian reform marks a time of hope and strong participation, but here we show how an autonomy project developed within Admapu conflicted with those making political alliances with the Chilean Left. We examine the internal dynamics of Admapu, and argue that at the end of the decade the organization divided into factions that cemented a rupture with the political system that helps explain the formation of contemporary resistance movements.

Applications are now open for blogging internships with the 2016 Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival.

Bloggers are required to enroll in a three credit 300 level seminar called FESTIVALS: BLOGGING, which covers the history of film festivals, intensive immersion in FLEFF, and blogging.

Jane Mt Pleasant teaches in Cornell University’s Department of Horticulture and is affiliated with Cornell’s American Indian Program. Her research focuses on Iroquois agricultural knowledge and the productivity of Iroquois cropping systems, and she lectures frequently on their links to contemporary agricultural sustainability – weaving in history, archaeology, paleobotany, and cultural/social anthropology in order to provide a bridge between scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

On Sunday, October 18th, On the Verge presented a staged reading of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons at the 2015 meeting of the Arthur Miller Society at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY.  The reading was directed by Claire Gleitman (Professor, department of English), and the cast included faculty members (Greg Bostwick, Kathleen Mulligan, Jennifer Herzog, Theatre; Chris Holmes, English) and students (Dan Wisniewski, Hailee Murphy, Justin Albinder, Adam David, and Fiorella Fernandez).

Chris Holmes, Assistant Professor of English, delivered an invited lecture to graduate students at The University of Pennsylvania on the evening of Monday, October 12. Professor Holmes' talk was entitled “Three Types of Failed Mechanisms in the Work of Ivan Vladislavic,” and it was presented to Professor Rita Barnard's graduate seminar, “South African Modernisms: City, Country, World.”

The Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts will present Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters.

Tickets for She Kills Monsters are free but reservations are required. To reserve tickets e-mail ICTams1@gmail.com and indicate a first and second choice of performance date and time. All tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the performance. Performance times are 8:00pm on Friday, October 23rd, 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturday, October 24th, 2:00pm on Sunday, October 25th, 8:00pm on Friday, October 30th, and Saturday, October 31st at 2:00 pm and 8:00pm. All performances will be held in Studio 2 in Dillingham Center.
