ENVS will hold the first-ever model solar car race on the Fitness Quad at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 6! Students in this term’s introductory Environmental Science and Technology class built miniature (approximately 8” wide by 12” long) solar-powered cars using guidelines set by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Solar Sprint event. Student teams chose their preferred design; their cars (each one unique in design, durability, and appearance) will race on Tuesday. About six cars will compete in each heat, with the top three cars advancing to the next round. A one-foot tall barrier will be built at the end of the course into which all the cars must crash. The fastest and most durable car will be pronounced the winner!

Special optical scanning procedures and schedules are in place for the processing of final exams during finals week.

Final exams will be processed Tuesday through Friday, May 6th – 9th and Monday, May 12th with a twenty-four hour turnaround time. Special procedures are in place after hours between 5pm-8pm Tuesday–Friday and again 5pm-8pm Monday. Regular optical scanning processing will resume on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Please see last week’s Intercom article detailing the Optical Scanning finals week procedures. If you have questions about the optical scanning process, please visit our website or contact the ITS Help Desk at 274-1000, between 8am-5pm, Monday – Friday.

Sarah Mucci, mentored by Assistant Professor Yvonne Rogalski, presented a poster on Global and Local Coherence in Parkinson's Disease at the third annual Master's Level Graduate Research Conference in Brockport, N.Y. on April 26. 

Anthony Di Renzo, associate professor of writing, will be interviewed on the radio show Out of Bounds (May 3 and 4). He and host Tish Pearlman will discuss his most recent book Trinàcria: A Tale of Bourbon Sicily.

Mary Jo Watts of ITS has many years of teaching and research experience and is currently co-authoring a biographical book project SCUM: The Life and Times of Valerie Solanas.  She will demonstrate the key technologies and workflows she has been using to record  and catalog interviews as week as manage hundreds of digital assets acquired over a period of 8 years.    She will highlight technologies that not only help in managing work but transformed the way she approached research.
