Power Shutdown Reminder

This is a reminder that the 2nd scheduled electrical shutdown will take place this Sunday, August 7th from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This shutdown is necessary in order to perform required maintenance to the campus electrical system.

It is the advice of Information Technology services that all computers and printers be unplugged before this interruption.  Please communicate this to the appropriate personnel within your department.

As always, the Office of Facilities will be on duty during and after the interruptions to ensure all systems resume their normal function.  Please feel free to call 274-3225 if you have any questions or concerns.

Participants in this year’s Summer Institute will be presenting on Leadership and Identity.

The Summer Institute exposes Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) students to the academic rigor they will encounter in the fall. As a culminating event, students are encouraged to conduct research and present their ideas on a given topic. With the use of poetry, song and dance, students express this year’s topic.

We experienced a major network outage from about 8:30 on Friday morning to about 12:30 Saturday afternoon. Most, though not all, of our network-based servers were inaccessible during that time.  The servers themselves were just fine, but there was so much error traffic on the network that it prevented access to them.  We want to tell you about what caused the problem and some steps we are taking to minimize the possibility of this event reoccurring, as well as some things you can do to help us prevent this kind of thing.

Please be advised that William M. Kay has taken on the role of Acting Director of Grants and Sponsored Projects. There will be ongoing changes to the external grants process, and for this reason, faculty and staff who intend to pursue external funding are encouraged to check the Research link under the Provost page on the website to be current on our process. One change that is already in place is that the Intent to Submit form is now completed and submitted online in one easy step. Any questions, comments, or suggestions can be made at acadfund@ithaca.edu.

Starting August 1, Barbara Howard will be joining the School of Business in the role of Associate Dean. Barbara is an experienced administrator and classroom instructor. She has been Assistant Dean at SUNY Geneseo since 1998. Prior to this role, she was a lecturer in Accounting and Finance, as well as a counselor in the Small Business Development Center. Before coming to Geneseo, Barbara was a lecturer and the Director of Graduate Programs at Rochester Institute of Technology. Please join me in welcoming Barbara to Ithaca College and the School of Business.

Adobe Upgrade Plan Renewals

Starting Monday, August 1st, individuals and departments who have purchased an Upgrade Plan for Adobe software installed on College-owned computers will be able to renew their Upgrade Plan for the next two year cycle.  There is a 90 day window to renew.

Susan Waterbury, Associate Professor of Violin and Chamber Music, returned for the 10th year to perform chamber music with musicians from all over the world at the Deia International Music Festival in Mallorca, Spain in early July.  Many of the same musicians return each year to play together and the presenter has named the group, Camerata Deia.
