Act! Speak! Build! Month is a month-long advocacy campaign from Ithaca College Habitat for Humanity. We aim to heighten awareness about homelessness, affordable housing issues, and how organizations like Habitat can help. Our advocacy is about addressing the policies, systems and attitudes in place that maintain the prevalence of substandard housing in the United States and beyond. Come join us for five great events!

Dominick Tavella, a re-recording mixer, will speak on March 23 at 6 p.m. in the Park Auditorium. Tavella won the Academy Award in the sound mixing category for “Chicago” and was a recent British Academy Award nominee for his work in “Black Swan.”

The Park School of Communications is once again offering a special undergraduate mini-course titled, Media for Social Responsibility. The course is open to all majors. This year’s focus in on Global Health and Wellness and includes a kickoff talk by Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) is a series of free, interactive workshops designed to help students develop and refine personal leadership skills. As an Ithaca College student, you may choose to attend any session that interests you, or take part in a series of six sessions to earn an SLI certificate. Certificates recognize students who invest time and energy into developing their leadership knowledge and skills.

The SLI is intended to help participants achieve success in their personal lives, interact more effectively with others, and prepare for the working world. Students track their participation in any of the series offered: Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading in a Diverse World, or Leading @ IC.

The Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA) is proud to announce the 2011 recipients of the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership.  This award recognizes students who excel academically, perform service to the College community and nation, and represent an exemplary level of achievement.

These students, in addition to OSEMA scholarship recipients, will be recognized at the first annual OSEMA Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 14, 2011  at 4:00pm in Park Auditorium.

The Department of Mathematics invites all students to an evening of games, puzzles, and course information on Tuesday, March 22, 7-9pm, in Klingenstein Lounge.  

There will be plenty of games, snack foods, and fun conversation.  Math faculty will be on hand to talk with students about math course selection and about math in general.

Joanne Hindman, a 17-year veteran in the Office of Marketing Communications, will be leaving her position as Associate Director of Web Content Strategy. Her last day will be April 14. We are working on arrangements to allow her to continue to work with us on a number of critical projects in a part-time capacity for a period after that.

The Ithaca College community is closely monitoring the news reports regarding the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, as well as the ongoing situation involving the damaged nuclear reactors.
