TCAT (Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit) has offered the service for more than a decade, according to Fran Benedict, chair of the volunteer committee that organizes the annual fireworks shows. Read more . . . (168 words) The Young People's Chorus of New York City will give a free concert at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 28 in Ford Hall. Artistic director and founder Francisco Núñez and Elizabeth Núñez will conduct. The chorus is hosted by the Ithaca Children's Choir, which is under the artistic direction of Janet Galván and will also be conducted by Jennifer Haywood. Music by Francisco Núñez, Mussorgsky, Papoulis, Elizabeth Ziman, and Heikki Sarmanto is on the program. A featured piece of music by Geoffrey Burgon is called "Shirtless Stephen and the Children's Crusade," a dramatic and touching work about children in the crusades. Jazz saxophonist Chris Vadala—who has performed with such legends as Dizzy Gillespie, B.B. King, and Ray Charles—will give a free concert at Ithaca College on Wednesday, June 27. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Vadala will be collaborating with faculty guitarist Steve Brown and two local musicians—bassist Miles Brown and drummer Tom Killian. Read more . . . (139 words) National Science Foundation Awards Grant to Physics and Anthropology ProfessorsContributed by Rebecca Peter on 06/19/07 Michael "Bodhi" Rogers, assistant professor of physics, and Jack Rossen, associate professor of anthropology, have been awarded $188,071 from the National Science Foundation to purchase a suite of geophysics instruments and soil sampling and analysis tools.
