Ithaca College film professor Cathy Crane will screen her film "Unoccupied Zone" on Tuesday, April 18, at 8:15 p.m. in the Park Auditorium.

The film, a meditation on Simone Weil -- philosopher, trade-unionist, mystic -- who was forced to leave Paris for Southern France (the "unoccupied zone") following the 1940 German occupation of Paris. The piece was shot is Paris, Marseille and on the Dillingham Stage at Ithaca College, with an original score by Beth Custer.

The film was made possible by a James B. Pendleton Grant from the Roy H. Park School of Communications as well as grants from the Provost's Office.

2006 Senior Student Show

The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the 2006 Senior Student Show on April 13. Showcasing the work of 32 students from the Departments of Art and Cinema and Photography, the exhibition includes works in a wide range of media and highlights the diversity of contemporary art practices at Ithaca College.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. In addition, a catered Lunchtime Salon will be held in the Gallery on Tuesday, April 18 from noon to 2:00 p.m. to give students, faculty, staff and the public a chance to eat, drink and discuss work in the 2006 Senior Show. The exhibition runs through May 14. All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public.

Al Franken Tickets

Nationally-syndicated radio talk show host and New York Times best selling author Al Franken will visit Ithaca on Wednesday, April 26. Franken, host of the “Al Franken Show” on Air America Radio, will broadcast his show live that day from noon to 3:00 p.m. from the Emerson Suites at Ithaca College. The live broadcast will be followed by a book-signing event.



There is no charge to be a part of the studio audience, but a ticket will be required.

Professor of Politics Asma Barlas gave a talk at Columbia University on
Sacred Knowledge and Women's Rights in Islam on March 29th, as part
of the events organized in connection with Women's History Month.

On April 6th, she gave a lecture at Middlebury, Vermont, on Women,
Politics, and Islam: Rereading Islamic Sources. While there
was also invited to lead a discussion with students on her book,
"Believing Women" in Islam, which they were reading for one of
their classes.

The 9th Annual School of Business Golf Tournament will be held April 23 at Trumansburg Golf Course.
