I am pleased to announce that Dean Gregory Woodward of the School of Music has agreed to serve Ithaca College as interim provost beginning on June 1, after Kathleen Rountree takes up her faculty position. Dean Woodward will serve in this capacity until a permanent provost is named through a search process that will take place during the fall 2010 semester.

On Thursday, April 29, the Symphonic Band will present a free program entitled "The Great Outdoors" at 8:15pm in Ford Hall.  Beth Peterson will conduct Copland's "Outdoor Overture,"  Carter Pann's "Slalom," a piece entitled "Bugs," and the wind band classic by Percy Grainger, "Lincolnshire Posy."

Please come wish Patricia Phelps a happy retirement after twenty-eight years of service with Ithaca College on Tuesday, May 4 between 2 and 4pm in the Friends Green Room, Room 3106 in the Whalen Center.  Pat began working in Speech Pathology, moved to Physical Education and then to the School of Music.  Twenty-four of Pat's twenty-eight years have been as an administrative assistant in the School of Music, where among other things, she has typed and formatted thousands of concert programs over the years.  She also spearheaded the creation of the college’s Veteran's Day Celebration, which she has co-chaired through seven years of events.

IC Theatre will present Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” a romantic comedy fueled by wit and deception. This production is directed by Greg Bostwick. Performances will be held in the Hoerner Theatre at Dillingham Center on April 27, 29, and 30 and May 1 at 8 p.m. with matinees offered at 2 p.m. on May 1 and 2.

Cortaca Climate Challenge

Hey, Ithacans! Ithaca College has challenged Cortland State to a special two-school rivalry: the Cortaca Climate Challenge. We are asking all those who were part of last year's America's Greenest Campus Challenge – and everyone who wasn’t! - to step up and join us in this new challenge. The Tompkins County Take Back the Night has been chosen to be one of the 10 Points of Light by the National Take Back the Night Foundation. On Thursday, April 29th Tompkins County will join 9 other communities across the country to speak out against violence and speak up in support of survivors of violence.

Mayday 5k Race-May 1 at 10am

Ithaca College Sport Management is hosting the first annual Mayday 5K Race. This race is to help promote awareness of the Ithaca Free Clinic’s mission to provide all people with free health care. The race will be run on a course entirely on the Ithaca College campus. Each participant will receive an event T-shirt and post race party with free food!

Four Score and Seven.....

Howard Erlich, Associate professor of Speech Communication, will give a presentation at Longview on the Gettysburg Address and why this short, overlooked address became the most famous speech in American history.

The presentation will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28th in the Longview auditorium.

Longview, a retirement community with a long term programmatic partnership with Ithaca College, is located about a half mile up Danby Road (from the College's main entrance) on the right.  There is a Visitor's Parking Lot located on the left of the Longview driveway.

 Do you have old, empty ink cartridges laying around? Get into the spirit of Earth Day by recycling them with Ithaca College Saxophone Society!
