The College's image database will be undergoing work for an upgrade and will be unavailable on Thursday, July 30, from 6:00 a.m. to noon, and possibly as late as 3:00 p.m.

Administrative tasks need to be performed in the College's student information system that preclude allowing student access during the next several weeks. 

As a result, the course registration system will not be available to students beginning Monday, July 27, at 11:59 p.m., through Monday, August 10. Students will then have access from Tuesday, August 11, at 12:01 a.m. through Tuesday, September 1 (the end of the add/drop period).

Students participating in the 2009 computer science undergraduate research program invite you to attend a poster session highlighting their work. Projects in robotics, serious games, and fractals will be presented and demonstrated. 

The poster session will take place Thursday, July 30, in Williams Hall, room 309, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Open to the community.

This coming October, Ithaca College will host an event titled "Difficult Dialogues," an event modeled after the national initiative by the same name, which describes itself as a "program designed to promote academic freedom and religious, cultural, and political pluralism on college and university campuses in the United States." Ithaca's "Difficult Dialogues" event is supported by an endowment that was given in honor of President Emerita Peggy Williams.

For students arriving on campus prior to the start of classes, there will be a driver safety class offered on Monday, August 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The location has yet to be announced; watch for a future Intercom announcement.

Weight Watchers rolled out the new Momentum program for 2009, designed to help you modify the plan so that it works for you!

We have had a wonderfully successful initial 17-week series here at Ithaca College. One of our members has achieved Lifetime status; a couple others are close to their individual goals. The new Oracle Time and Labor (OTL) system is ready to go live beginning with the pay period that starts on Monday, August 17, 2009.  Staff members will no longer submit paper Time Report Forms (TRFs) after that date.  All time will be reported through the new on-line OTL system.

I am writing to announce changes in the leadership of the Ithaca Seminar program in the School of Humanities and Sciences. Faculty leadership of the program will be shared by Susanne Morgan, who will work primarily on curriculum and faculty development, and Danette Johnson, who will facilitate the program’s assessment efforts. Susanne will head up the Ithaca Seminar faculty advisory committee, and both will serve on the program’s executive committee.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bashar Hanna as the associate provost for academic programs and initiatives. He comes to Ithaca College after serving as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Kutztown University since 2005. 

Prior to that appointment, he held positions at DeVry University-Pennsylvania and Temple University in various leadership roles including assistant vice provost, associate dean, and dean.
