Ithaca College

A conversation with colleagues about contemplative practices in the classroom and a scholarly colloquium on combat entertainment begin the Colloquium Series for fall 2005. Also included are a lecture on Hurricane Katrina by an ecologist and an environmental historian, and a "sustainability cafe," where we'll discuss the ecological footprint we leave as individuals, as a campus, as a community, and as a nation.

Responding to the crisis in the Gulf Coast area, Ithaca College has announced a twofold plan to assist families and students affected by Hurricane Katrina. First, the College will open its doors to children of alumni and any New York State resident who enrolled at an institution in the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Second, the campus is organizing a coordinated relief effort. Among the groups planning to assist in the recovery are two student organizations -- the African-Latino Society (ALS) and the American Red Cross at Ithaca College (ARC@IC) -- that are collaborating to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

A tradition will continue at Ithaca College on Sunday, September 11, in commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. In a symbolic display representative of the World Trade Center towers, only the two center Dillingham Center fountains will be turned on for the day. President George W. Bush has proclaimed September 11 as Patriot Day and has asked Americans to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities to honor the victims of the attacks.
