Ithaca College

The IC voICes, our very own employee chorus, will be performing a holiday concert this Saturday, January 24, starting at 5 p.m. in Ford Hall.

VoICes will be joined by the Ithaca Community Band and the Seneca Singers (a community chorus from Seneca Falls, New York). Each group will perform several musical numbers individually followed by a collective performance of the Hallelujah Chorus.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Taylor Branch will be on campus Monday, January 19, 2004, as part of the ongoing Engaging Democracy and Troubling the Water Lecture Series.

His public presentation titled, "Violence, Race, Democracy: What Rules America?" will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I must inform the Ithaca College community of the death of one of our students. Erika Watson, a senior from Middletown, Connecticut, majoring in art in the School of Humanities and Sciences, was killed in an automobile accident on Saturday morning. The accident occurred on Route 13 in Dryden.

As a result of a production problem with the Ithaca College Faculty-Staff parking permit/bus passes by the Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit, not all of the new 2004 permit/passes will be out to all staff and faculty before January 15, 2004 -- the expiration date of the old permit/pass.

The old 2003 bus passes will continue to be honored by the TCAT bus drivers through Monday, January 19, 2004.

ANDY SMITH, assistant professor in biology, presented a paper titled, “Glue or slime: molluscan glue proteins that control gel mechanics,” at the annual meetings of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology in New Orleans, La., in January 2004. This talk was co-authored with four IC students: Jan Pawlicki, Laura Pease, Courtney Pierce and Tom Startz.

For the past three years, ITS Classroom Technology Support has accepted appointments for classroom videotaping service based on student availability. The demand for this service has grown tenfold -- far exceeding our expectations -- and has begun to erode our primary mission, which is technical classroom assistance and repair.
