Professor Marty Brownstein screens and discusses The Times of Harvey Milk When Harvey Milk was elected to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977, he was one of the country's first openly gay men to assume public office. One year later, he and Mayor George Moscone were shot and killed by Milk's fellow council member, former police officer and fire fighter Dan White.
