For members of the campus community who may not be aware, I wanted to make note of the passing earlier this summer of Professor Emerita of Mathematics and Computer Science Marcia Ascher following a lengthy illness. She had taught at Ithaca College from 1960 until her retirement in 1995.

Announced last week, the School of Music will bid farewell to Thomas Kline, director of music admissions and preparatory programs; his last day with IC will be Wednesday, August 7. He has accepted an associate vice president for strategic initiatives position at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. A farewell reception will be held the day before his departure to celebrate his time at Ithaca College.

Ithaca College Toastmasters achieved Select Distinguished Club status this year, and that contributed to both the area and division achieving Distinguished status. The Southern Division, though newer and smaller in total membership than the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions of District 65, has earned a higher percentage of distinguished clubs and areas and is the only "Distinguished" division in district 65 after the close of the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

 John Fracchia, Associate Director of Career Services was recently recognized by the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE) with a Presidential Citation for Outstanding Volunteers at the 2013 annual conference in Atlantic City, NJ.

 John has just completed a 3 year presidential term of service on the EACE board, and received the citation for serving in an additional board role during his final year when an unanticipated vacancy occurred.

President Emerita Peggy R. Williams was recently elected to serve a second two-year term on the national board of directors of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), a leading voice for women and girls. Williams, whose new term began July 1, has been a member of AAUW since 1999.

Farewell to Rick Couture

After more than three decades of dedicated service to Ithaca College, Rick Couture has announced that he will be leaving for a position as Director of Facilities and Operations at Northfield Mount Hermon, a private school in western Massachusetts.  The move will bring Rick and his wife, Margarete, closer to family, including their first grandchild.
